Local Actions in a Global Context:

Paradiplomacy by Subnational Jurisdictions

Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway, 15—17 January  2013

 

Local Actions in a Global Context will consider consider the implications of subnational and unrecognised jurisdictions exercising foreign policy. It will explore  apparatuses of paradiplomacy and the interactions between subnational jurisdictions and other actors. Presentations may concern either mainland or island jurisdictions. Presenters are welcome from  academia, government, business, and the third sector.

 

The deadline for proposals is 1 June 2012. Talks last 20 minutes and are in English. Proposals are considered on a rolling basis: If you make a proposal early, you may be able to register at a reduced rate. Propose an organised panel.

Presenters may propose their own panel of three to four speakers to give talks on related topics or related geographical areas. Examples of panel topics include:

• Governing the Development of Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Tourism

• Collaborative Innovation through Island-to-Island Exchange

• Empowering and Mobilising Local Actors to Participate in Governance

• Collaborative Innovation through Public-Private Partnership

• Islands as Laboratories for New Forms of Interactive Governance.
